Fixing the width of the fabric

Whats meaning of Fixing ?

If we want to fully understand the operation of fixing the width of the fabric, it is better to pay attention to this old proverb that says: ” If you have 100 you have 90 too “

The fabric width fixing operation is based on exactly this concept. The heat of about 200 degrees Celsius is given to the fabric, and as long as the fabric is used in various applications, it will never see such heat again. Below is a detailed description of how to fix the width of the fabric.

The step of fixing the width of the fabric is one of the most important steps in the production of a high-quality fabric. Usually, all fabrics must pass the fabric width stabilization stage before they reach the stage of coating or printing on the fabric; Because, for example, the heat that the fabric sees during the coating stage may cause it to shrink or so-called water. In order to avoid such problems, almost all the fabrics that are produced with polyester yarn, after they are woven, they enter the stage of fixing the width of the fabric.

Why do we fix the width of the fabric?

The most important reason why the fabric is fixed width is that when the fabric reaches the consumer’s hand, it does not lose its shape or in other words shrink when exposed to heat and cold or during washing. For example, the cloth may be turned into a women’s bag. If the consumer decides to wash this bag at a high temperature, if the width stabilization is not done on the fabric of that bag, it may cause the fabric to shrink and water, resulting in deformation and loss of the bag.

Or, for example, if the bag is placed under the sun on a hot summer day, heat may be applied to it up to 70 degrees Celsius. If the fabric that the bag is sewn with has not seen such heat before, it will definitely cause the bag to deform and perish. Therefore, it is quite clear that the step of fixing the fabric width is one of the most important steps in fabric production, which must be done correctly.

The base of polyester thread is made of plastic material and as we know, plastic shrinks due to heat, and fabric that has polyester thread used in its texture will also shrink if the width of the fabric is not fixed. Heat may fade or shrink.

Fixing the width of the fabric by stenter device (Stenter) is done; In this way, both sides of the fabric are fixed in the device and the fabric is heated. It takes about 30 seconds for the fabric to come out of this heat, and during this time, heat equivalent to 180 to 200 degrees Celsius is given to the fabric.

The fading or shrinking of the fabric that occurs when seeing such heat causes the width of the fabric to be fixed; Because in various uses and various products that are produced with fabric, the fabric never sees such heat.

As we mentioned earlier, the stabilization of the fabric width is done before the fabric coating operation. But sometimes we may need uncoated fabric, and in fact, after the fabric is woven, it is only fixed and sent to the market.

For example, in order to produce a bag, it is possible to use coated fabric in some areas, such as the seams of the bag, where the fabric needs to go under the wheel in several layers, due to its greater thickness. In such cases, manufacturers use uncoated fabric; For example, if a manufacturer wants to produce a bag with melange fabric, he will use coated fabric for the body of the bag and most of the parts, and in some parts, he will need a fabric that is only fixed in width.
